Up at 3:30 to drive to Land's End, wet, windy and foggy but out the car we got and set of at 7:30. Made good progress. A30 is a nasty road especially in the wet - constant rain and spray in our faces from every passing lorry! Steve (our host for 2 nights) came with us.
Quite an eventful day, one puncture on Phill's bike at 60miles, then jammed chain which locked up the pedals on a steep hill, couldn't get the shoes out of the pedals so performed a gracious fall into the nearside shubbery, much to the amusement of Dave following behind! Next thing our camping stove caught fire whilst we were brewing up - quick exit for all whilst we waityed for the gass canister to explode!
The last 40 miles where the worst. Okehampton just didnt seem to be getting any closer and the rain was even heavier. The finally 20miles has us up and down North Devon dales with some killer hills (20%). Arrived weary and very tired at 8pm, 12.5 hours of hard slog - and rather saddle sore.
But good food and hospitally by Steve & Julie soon had us back in shape.
Distance cycled 122.8 miles, average speed 15.6mph, max speed 40.6mph.

Hello Phill and Dave,
The beach was great today, lovely low tide and warm sand. Only a few spots of rain.
As we went about our day we thought of you cycling, when we got up and as the children went to bed! I don't envy you being on those busy roads.
Hope you don't get another flat tyre tommorrow or crash your bike into the verge again Phill.
It's quiet at home without you here, the children are asking when you're coming back, and L knows when you do it will be her birthday, which always makes her smile. When we talk about daddy we here little M saying Da Da as she wanders round. She said 'worm' today and pointed at the sandcasts on the beach! as well as 'dirty' as she headed straight for the toilet brush to wave around the bathroom, loving my reaction!
Glad you made it today, all 126 miles, I expect your really excited about doing it all again tommorrow! keep snacking and we miss you loads,
Char xx
